OpenAI Acquires NextSlide: What It Means for AI Presentations

OpenAI has acquired NextSlide, an AI startup that turns prompts, notes, documents and research into editable presentations. According to a TechCrunch report dated August 8, 2026, the acquisition took place in early 2026 and was announced a few months later. The NextSlide team now works on ChatGPT, and the financial terms were not disclosed. The move shows that building presentations with AI is shifting from a separate tool to a natural function of general assistants such as ChatGPT.

What exactly happened in the acquisition?

As TechCrunch reports, NextSlide's technology turned prompts, notes, documents or research into "polished, editable" presentations. Its founder, Ahmed Beshry, was previously one of the co-founders of Caper AI, which Instacart acquired in 2021. The Turkish tech news site Webrazzi also reported on August 10 that the team would work on ChatGPT, and noted that OpenAI had acquired the AI-based finance startup Hiro in April 2026.

The purchase price, and how long NextSlide will remain available as a standalone product, have not been officially disclosed. The Presentations capability can create and edit Google Slides or PowerPoint presentations from source material, a sample deck or a template. The same page is explicit about an important limitation: template fidelity and advanced chart, shape, formatting or slide editing operations may still need manual fixes, and it recommends checking the final layout and claims before sharing. How do you make a good presentation with AI?

Whatever the tool, this order gets good results:

1. Gather your source material. Reports, proposal text, meeting notes, approved figures. The more concrete the material the AI works from, the less it invents.
2. Write down the audience and purpose. "Ten slides for board approval of a budget" and "a new product introduction for dealers" need different structures. State the audience, the length and the decision you expect in your prompt.
3. Start from a template. Provide your corporate template or a sample deck. When brand colors, fonts and logo usage come from the template, there is less to fix later.
4. Approve the flow first, then the slides. Read the list of headings the tool produces and fix the order of the story; deal with slide design afterwards.
